1. What did you do in 2011 that you'd never done before?
Like a million things, jeez:

- be married
- go to Iceland
- go to a roller derby match
- sign an official long-term job contract
- repaint an entire apartment by myself
- do yoga
- learn to crochet, kind of

2. Did you keep your new years' resolutions, and will you make more for next year?
I did! Wear less grey, which I feel I was successful at doing. I recently bought a pair of pants that are purple with pink polka dots and they are my favorite. I certainly traveled a lot, though many times it was to visit people in places I'd already been, but whatever. I also definitely did more crafts, although I'd like next year to try to branch out from just knitting all the time. I would also like to take piano lessons again, maybe.

3. Did anyone close to you give birth?

4. Did anyone close to you die?

5. Which countries did you visit?

6. What would you like to have in 2013 that you lacked in 2012?
Gosh. A stable routine. 2012 will be one of the most memorable years of my life, probably, but the sine wave of the year was a little dramatic for a pattern, I think. Just to live a life that I like that won't change in three months.

7. What dates from 2012 will remain etched upon your memory, and why?
June 22 & 23 - the two big ceremonies. December 3 - my official start date at work!

8. What was your biggest achievement of the year?
Officially graduating! Getting a job! Not collapsing due to the sheer stress of having four separate weddings! Mostly giving up soda!

9. What was your biggest failure?
Inability to let go of stress or baggage.

10. Did you suffer illness or injury?
Most memorably, I pulled a groin muscle. Don't do that.

11. What was the best thing you bought?
A marriage license.

12. Whose behaviour merited celebration?
All of my wonderful friends and my incredibly supportive family(ies). [personal profile] allchildren, the bravest person I know.

13. Whose behaviour made you appalled and depressed?

14. Where did most of your money go?
Recently: new clothes. Previously: the usual.

15. What were you really, really, really excited about?
Graduation! Wedding! Honeymoon! Job! [personal profile] allchildren moved to Pittsburgh! I went to see John Green speak in Chicago as the last non-wedding related thing I did in June, and that was pretty magical. He signed my book and commiserated about how terrible weddings are, "but the great thing is after it's all over, then you get to be married".

16. What song will always remind you of 2011?
Lots of wedding songs.

17. Compared to this time last year, are you:
a) Happier or sadder?

Happier, absolutely.

b) Bigger or smaller?
Smaller, I think.

c) Richer or poorer?
Thanks new job!!!

18. What do you wish you'd done more of?
More movies!

19. What do you wish you'd done less of?
Being a stress ball.

20. How will you be spending Christmas?
With my family! For the first year ever, my folks get both daughters and both sons-in-law. Today we had Fancyman and Fancymom over for dinner after we all went to church and it was wonderful.

21. What was your favourite month of 2011?
For sheer stressballs reasons, I can't really in all honesty say June. Okay, no, it was still probably June.

22. Did you fall in love in 2011?
I mean, sure.

23. What was your favourite TV programme?
New Girl continues to be top notch. The Thick of It! I'm perpetually behind on everything else, but I'm betting The Hour will factor in there somewhere. ummmm. The Borgias had a couple unexpectedly actual quality episodes. Gossip Girl, for sheer HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA

24. How did you see in the New Year?
I was supposed to go out and meet up with a bunch of people, but then I had a migraine and tried to be as quiet as possible.

25. Do you hate anyone now that you didn't hate this time last year?
Oh sure. I spent a lot of this year trying to recategorize the way I think of disliking people, rather than just blanket-statement dismissal of hating them. But I mean, you know. Probably.

26. What was the best book you read?
The Book Thief, The Fault in Our Stars, Just Kids. I read some Discworld, specifically the Tiffany Aching series (section?) and man, talk about books I wish I had when I was a kid. Adding that to the very specific pantheon of "characters to whom I deeply relate".

27. What was your greatest musical discovery?
I don't really remember getting into new artists this year. Uhhhh. Azealia Banks?? Noah and the Whale?

28. What did you want and get?
A wonderful beautiful amazing wedding (twice), a jooooooob!!

29. What did you want and not get?
Snow :( The worst is how much it rains, now, in the winter. The Allegheny River hasn't frozen in ten years! Five years ago this would have been snow, but now it's like five-ten degrees warmer! Ha........ha..........

30. What was your favourite film of this year?
Snow White & The Huntsman, Moonrise Kingdom, Beasts of the Southern Wild, The Perks of Being a Wallflower.

31. What did you do on your birthday?
Went for Thai food and saw The Artist.

32. What one thing would have made your year immeasurably more satisfying?
Haha, getting a job earlier? It feels pretty selfish to want more after the year I had, though.

33. How would you describe your personal fashion concept in 2012?
Leslie Knope.

34. What kept you sane?
My wonderful friends and family, SAME AS IT EVER WAS.

35. Which celebrity/public figure did you fancy the most?
Josh Charles. Michael Pitt, again, some more.

36. What political issue stirred you the most?
God, everything. I hate election years.

37. Who did you miss?

38. Who was the best new person you met?
All of my new family, many of whom I had never actually met before.

39. Tell us a valuable life lesson you learned in 2011.
Stop keeping it in. Keep trying.

40. Quote a song lyric that sums up your year.
And I'll say I no longer feel I have to be James Dean
And she'll say, yeah well I feel all pretty happy too
And I'm always pretty happy when I'm just kicking back with you
