So this weekend I watched the first five episodes of Fringe! Gosh, this is an exciting show, it's too bad it never gets any mention on lj or tumblr or anything. It's pretty awesome so far, although SO MUCH GROSSER than I could have conceived. Other than that, though. Three and a half stars (out of four, because this is my imaginary star-ranking system) (they lost half a star for episode two).

Episode 1, in which i realize belatedly i don't know anything about the premise of this show

(Literally, the things I know about this show: Pacey is there, some guy named Walter and his cow, Astrid and her ridiculous face are co-prettiest with shut up your face Anna Torv, alternate colored universes. Things I do not know about this show: the...premise? What anyone does besides being really really ridiculously good-looking.)

- sdkjfafhaah SWEET CHRIST no one was exaggerating about how goddamn gross this show is. two minutes in, hidden like three times. /o\

- Oh shit it's Cedric from the wire! Hiiiiiiii Cedriiiiiiiiiic. you have not aged, sir. I'm sorry you have to play the Skinner, and also to be a jerk all the time. Also, how do you get typecast as the "leading the task force" guy? Whatever, I love him.

- Poor Agent Danny, or whatever? I'm more like Poor Agent Olivia here, because I have a pre-existing OMG HI OLIVIA reaction. Men who declare love in the first ten minutes of a bad robot production don't tend to fare well, eh.

- I like Charlie a lot. I also like that it's set in Boston! I like a lot of things about this show, except how friggin gross it is. I also find XFian atmosphere soothing. It's so familiar! I also like Dream Olivia's fancy dream dress, and the location stamps.

- Oh shit robotics!! SHIT JUST GOT (MORE) INTERESTING. Things that are definitely not going to raise suspicion when you tell them to FBI agents: THIS HAS GOTTEN BEYOND OUR ABILITY TO REGULATE. I imagine watching this show with someone with actual medical/science knowledge would be hellacious, but I hardly know why blood isn't red inside in the body, so.

Episode 2, fbi's most unwanted

- We're getting right into those biological invasion issues, huh? WHAT THE FUCK, this shit is horrific. THAT'LL DO, DONNIE PFASTER. The way the show engages with this guy's methods is, uh, pretty gross? brrrrrrr.

Episode 3, time for more light terrorism I guess

- Man, that is an effective and horrifying opening. This is so far an extremely well-paced show, but that opening in particular was successfully urgent.

- Fenway! My old dorm (probably)! exciting.

- Are we supposed like Walter? Because idk. there's a lot going on there. Also, is there ANYTHING he and Belly DIDN'T posit back in the halcyon basement days?

- I really like Massive Dynamic Cigarette Smoking Lady. Robotic Arm Lady? we'll get there. That's just a general note.

- I really want Cedric Diggory Skinner to give Olivia an X-File at some point. Come on, FOX! It would be so awesome! You're already dealing with super soldiers, come oooooon.

Episode 4, I guess now we're getting some previousLIES this time

- Grossest previously ever. Also, this seems a good place to note I really like the credits! so jaunty.

- The audio in this episode is slightly out of sync; that's not going to get old. Wait, maybe it's just Pacey. Talk better, Pacey!

- The inside of Olivia's rando friend's apartment is deeply reminiscent of Scully's apartment. Sorry you had to be the melissa, guy!

- Noooooo leave my Astrid alone! PS, needs moar Astrid backstory and Astrid plots.

- Aw, bald guy. I kind of like you, even though you're, you know. villainous. That mirroring business was rad, though slightly less eerie than in "midnight". otoh, less aaactiiiiiiiiing from Pacey.

- I love all of Olivia's suits. fuckyesallofthat.

- Aww, the skeptic got to see something anomalous! Shoooow, you do care!

- I would dksljfa about the cliffhanger here, except I watched episode five yesterday night after my friend's birthday party, and didn't write anything about it because it would have been completely incoherent and unconnected thoughts, TOTALLY UNLIKE THE REST OF THIS POST I AM SURE. I also haven't decided yet if the little episode image tags are cute/interesting or irritating.
